The essence and history of Oskaloosa
Step through our doors and you'll be transported back to the early 1900s beauty of our historic building. Completed in 1902, this stunning Italian Renaissance Revival structure originally served as the city's post office. The brick exterior with limestone and terra cotta accents was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2020 to preserve its architectural significance.
When new owners Brian Ridge and Jeff Ketels purchased the property in 2019, they were committed to restoring the landmark while adapting it for modern uses. During the meticulous renovation process, the team uncovered incredible original details like hidden passageways, iron staircases, marble flooring, and the old post office vaults - all of which were carefully preserved.
Today, the building's rich history is on full display at The American Table Restaurant and P.O. Box. From the lovingly restored windows and doors to the elegant interior design, you'll dine surrounded by early 20th century craftsmanship and beauty. We invite you to come experience a truly unique culinary experience that blends modern American cuisine with an authentic piece of our town's legacy.
Whether you're a longtime local or visiting for the first time, The American Table and P.O. Box offer a transporting dining atmosphere you won't find anywhere else. Join us and taste the flavors of today while celebrating the craft of the past.
